Energy Efficiency in Buildings

ECBCEnergy use in Indian buildings is being driven by the growth in floor space and the increasing intensity of energy use as a result of higher service level requirements. ECO-III Project in close collaboration with BEE has been working to improve EE in commercial buildings by working on ECBC implementation, development of energy use benchmarks for commercial buildings, energy simulation capacity building, and by working with architectural institutes to develop capacity in offering building physics and energy simulation courses. ECO-III Project is widely viewed as one of the major activities in India focused on improving energy efficiency in the buildings sector through cutting-edge research, analysis, and public-domain publications.

Objectives

  • Identify and plug some of the gaps that act as barriers to improving EE in new and existing buildings
  • Assist BEE in implementing the ECBC in a technically rigorous manner
  • Help in moving the commercial building towards performance-based benchmarks
  • Help improve EE in energy-intensive commercial buildings (e.g. data centers and hospitals)
  • Help improve the standards and capacity in the field of benchmarked energy use, building energy audits and measurement and verification of energy savings
