Das, Bibhash

BibhashEnergy Efficiency Research Associate
USAID ECO-III Project

Bibhash Das works as Energy Efficiency Research Associate for the IRG-USAID ECO-III Project. He is currently working on the development and looking after the day-to-day coordination of the ECOnirman (ECBC conformance check) tool, ECOnirman EPI Tool and ECObench (building energy performance benchmarking) tool. He is also involved with the Net Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) Program with particular focus on the evaluation of renewable energy technologies for on-site electricity generation and their integration into an NZEB.

Bibhash has a Master’s degree in Energy with a focus on the theme of Renewable Energy and the Environment from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK. As part of his master’s degree he has worked on several renewable energy assignments including a contingent valuation of a hypothetical wind farm in Edinburgh, micro-wind turbines for residential use in UK, Delphi analysis of stand-alone hybrid solar and wind energy system for use in rural areas in UK and India, environmental impact assessment of proposed offshore wind farm at Firth of Forth, Scotland, analysis of climate change effects on low-lying islands in the Pacific and Indian Oceans and the role of climatic models in predicting climate change effects and mitigation/adaptation strategies. Bibhash’s Master’s thesis focused on dependability and security aspects from an end-user perspective of future energy networks (smart grids). The thesis aims were to develop a conceptual model to analyze and identify components of complex future energy networks in terms of entities, stakeholders and their interactions and also define business models/processes based on them.

Bibhash holds a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Computer Engineering from Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur. His BTech major project was on the analysis and detection of metamorphic malwares. He has also done several minor projects in the fields of database management and computer vision including an internship at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati in which he implemented JPEG Image Compression using MATLAB.
