Building Energy Efficiency Specialist

Position Description
Building Energy Efficiency Specialist will be an important member of the ECO-III Project team and will be working on most of the ongoing activities under the project. This position offers a unique opportunity to actively participate in and shape the urban built environment and make India energy-efficient through the development of technical guidance on the design, construction and retro-fitting of large commercial and residential buildings, and municipal street-lighting and water-pumping systems. This position also offers an opportunity to work with Bureau of Energy Efficiency on its national initiatives such as implementation of Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) and Star-rating program for commercial buildings; State level organizations; National Institute of Advance Studies in Architecture and India’s leading educational institutions for enhancement of curriculum on energy efficiency. The scope also covers providing support to ECO-III supported institutions (Regional Energy Efficiency Centers and Industry Association) in becoming agent of market transformation by helping establish industry consortiums that can support them on a long-term basis.
Responsibilities
Candidate should be a motivated and self driven individual, an avid learner with a “can do” attitude. The Candidate will undertake independently or assist Project’s Task Leaders and Chief of Party in carrying out Project activities such as:
- Conduct of energy analysis (simulation, benchmarking, audits, M&V, etc.)
- Development of energy efficiency training and marketing documents
- Preparation of educational and awareness presentations
- Organization of stakeholders’ workshops
- Development of project reports, and turning them into conference and journal papers
- Undertaking research to support for Net Zero Energy Building initiative
- Support to the development of Building Energy Tools
- Conduct and proctor ECBC training for “Train the Trainer” workshop and ECBC Proficiency test
- Implementation of ECBC and performance assessment of commercial buildings
- Undertake consortium building activities related to Regional Energy Efficiency Centers
Qualifications
- Master’s degree with specialization in one of the following fields – Energy/Sustainable Engineering, Energy Management, Building Technology/Science, Energy Policy – is highly desirable along with 3 to 5 years of professional experience:
- Sound understanding of ECBC, energy efficiency, building technology, and sustainability principles and their application in design and construction of large commercial buildings;
- Good understanding of LEED-India, GRIHA, and MoEF’s Environmental Impact Assessment and their linkage to ECBC;
- Proficiency in conducting international research and analysis for development of policy inputs;
- Proficiency in Building Simulation Software (VisualDOE, eQuest, DesignBuilder), MS Office (Word. PowerPoint, and Excel) applications, Adobe Photoshop, Desktop Layout (Framemaker, InDesign, etc);
- Ability to work in a team environment;
- Self-motivated, willing to undertake responsibility and be able to work under minimal supervision;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, is a pre-requisite;
- Past experience with an international organization or a donor project is desirable;
