USAID ECO-III Project
Dr. Satish Kumar headed the USAID funded bilateral ECO-III project (www.eco3.org), from the start (October 2006) until December 2010. In January 2011, Dr. Kumar joined Schneider Electric where he is the Vice President, Energy Management Services and leads a team responsible for offering a range of professional services (advisory and assessment to design, development, and execution of energy management solutions leading to improved energy efficiency, safety, and reliability) for large clients in the Industry, Buildings, and the IT sector. In his role as the Energy Efficiency Ambassador of Schneider Electric India Pvt. Ltd., he leads the Energy Efficiency Influence Team and frequently speaks at international and national conferences and has been featured in several newspapers and leading magazines on topics related to technology and innovation, energy efficiency policy, smart grid and cities, electrical vehicles, green manufacturing, skills development and access to energy.
While serving as the Chief of Party for the USAID funded ECO-III Project (www.eco3.org) - a bilateral initiative between the US and India Government - he provided technical leadership and managed one of the largest building energy efficiency projects in India from 2006 to 2010. He worked as a Technical Advisor to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency and Govt. of Gujarat and Punjab and led a team consisting of Indian and International companies and consultants. In partnership with BEE, and under Dr. Kumar’s leadership, the ECO-III team undertook groundbreaking activities to improve energy efficiency in buildings (ECBC, Benchmarking and Star Labeling) and helped launch national programs to promote energy efficiency in data centers and hospitals.
Before moving back to India in 2006, he was a Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (www.lbl.gov) where he worked on programs of US Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, and California Utilities for more than 11 years. He has a B. Arch. from IIT, Roorkee and a Ph.D. in Building Science from Carnegie Mellon University.
He is a co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Efficiency Valuation Organization, serves on the Board of Global Buildings Performance Networks (GBPN – a ClimateWorks Foundation initiative), and is a co-founder and a Board member of the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy. He is an adjunct faculty member at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, serves on the Board of Studies for Faculty of Design, CEPT University, International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Building Energy Code Steering Committee, Central Electricity Authority (CEA)/IEA Energy Technology Perspectives Working Group and on the various technical committees of the International Standards Organization (ISO), Bureau of Indian Standards(Sustainability Panel) and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency. He is the author of more than 50 journal papers, book chapters, and conference papers. He is a LEED AP (Building Construction and Design), Certified Energy Manager and Certified Measurement and Verification Professional and is an ASHRAE member.
